Workshops and Seminars

Note: Seminars are available Monday - Thursday 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturdays only.

Supplies for activities will be provided.

Hand-outs and articles will be given at each workshop that pertain to the subject matter. Also copies of activities that certificate participants used will be available.

A certificate of attendance will be given to each attendee on completion of the seminar.

Early Literacy
book This workshop is to promote an awareness of what Literacy is. Topics covered include:

  • Why is it important in the Early Childhood classroom?
  • How children can develop literacy skills.
  • The making of young readers and writers.
  • The role of classroom centers.
Also includes hands-on activities that provide reinforcement of literacy skills.


Teacher and Child Interaction

This workshop provides guidelines and infomation on the role of the teacher in Positive Guidance and interaction with the child.


crying Child Abuse Training
Focusing on how to recognize child abuse. Also looks at types of abuse and the teacher's role in preventing child abuse.


Playground Safety
slide Provides important information on playground safety. Discussion of equipment safety, how to recognize possible hazards and the role of the caregiver in making the playground safe for "Child's Play."

 


Curriculum in the Early Childhood Classroom curriculum
This workshop is an overview of what curriculum is, what it should include and what it should do. Provides an outline of Early Childhood development and the role curriculum plays at each Developmental stage. Also a synopsis of curriculum development.


Incorporating Literature Throughout the Curriculum books
Promoting the importance of using literature of using literature in the Preschool classroom. The workshop provides an array of ideas which can be incorporated in all areas of the curriculum to reinforce math, science, social studies, physical development, language and art. It will also explore ways for teachers to expand children's interests in literature and provide strategies and activities in which teachers can bring literature alive through a hands-on approach.


Teacher Made Games That Teach teacher made
Provides ideas for teacher-made games, acticvities that promote learning, using ready-made and recycled materials. Also includes make-and-take activities.



Book Making Made Simple book making
Children enjoy looking at their own creations and literacy is a very important aspect of the Early Childhood classroom. This worskshop will put the two together. It will look at techiques on making books of your own and have a "make it-take it" time.
